Mail!

I’ve been crazy busy throwing my last birthday party and finishing up my Witch Switch craft. It’s late and I’m so exhausted I’m going to try to take a nap tomorrow.

This post is way overdue! I want to thank Mique for sending me the backpack tags that I won in her giveaway. My boys LOVED them and it made them feel so special. Also thank you for …

this awesome BOO banner that she made me for my birthday. I love it!! It fits perfectly on my mantle. Thank You!! My boys really like it too.

I also received a “Pay it Forward’ gift from Wendi. I’ve just got to say that Wendi and I could definitely hang in ‘real life’. I’ve been rockin‘ out to the CD she made me for days! Thank you so much Wendi. My boys have almost got the CD memorized. 😉

Project Ideas

I got an e-mail from my friend Diana a while ago with these fun DIY project ideas. I’m going to look into doing this as a Christmas gift.

I hope you’ve gotten some fun ideas. Thanks Diana! What projects are you working on?

UPDATE: Diana just e-mailed me 2 more ideas… Enjoy!!

I think I understood in her e-mail that this frame board is to hang necklaces. Beautiful! I’d give her a ‘Great Tip Award’ if she had a blog. 🙂

It’s a Girl Thing

Last night I was able to enjoy some girl time and went to Mavens. I’m still on a high from all the birthday affirmations and was able to let loose and enjoy myself. 😉 You ladies ROCK! I really enjoy your company and laughs.

I woke up this morning to 5 cars parked in front of my house and realized that it’s our bi-annual community garage sale weekend. Luckily Jason’s off today, so we put Drake in the car and drove around to meet our neighbors and find some treasures. I got this desk for Davis for $15! I’m going to repaint it black.

I also met a neighbor who had a home decor business and I got all this stuff for only $32. I haven’t been to a garage sale in about 9 years but boy am I hooked!! I’m going to repaint both mirrors pink and the little table back to go in my guest room.

I also got invited to a neighborhood girls night out. I’ve decided I’m going go out of my comfort zone and go. I’m usually so involved with people at my church that I haven’t made it a priority to mingle with people in my community. Shame on me. I’m going to reform myself.

Oh! I’ve forgotten to tell you that my new calling (responsibility) at church is working on the Enrichment board. Enrichment is basically fun meetings for the women at church that teach and promote Home, Family, and Personal Enrichment. I haven’t had a creative calling like this for many years and I’m excited for the challenge. PLEASE send me all your great ideas!! 😉

Oprah’s show on Autism

Did anyone watch Oprah’s show on Autism with Jenny’ McCarthy and Holly Robinson-Pete? I’ve been wanting Oprah to talk about this subject for quite a while and assumed she had but I missed the show. I’ve written in about it a couple times.

I was really impressed by the show and the “mom-power” attitude it had. I was relieved to know that I’ve done everything with Davis that had been suggested. (Whew!) I felt like she explained how it feels to be a mother with a special needs child very well and the strain it has on yourself and on your marriage. “You Go Ladies!” And thanks for opening up peoples minds and hearts on this rapidly increasing issue.

My hope is that people as a whole will look at these little guys with compasion and understanding (unlike my school district), and love them for their special talents and for the special little people they are.

How Did Your House Weather Summer?

It was a very long summer and my house has paid the price! Now that everyone is healthy and the birthdays are over, I can get my house back in order!

How did your house weather the summer? Mine wasn’t so fortunate. The drawer got pulled completely off in our media room,

Food smeared over various walls throughout the house,

Paint on the walls from the boys crafts,

Paint is chipping off the doors as well as toy marks all over the doors,

Davis’ door on his locker got pulled off! Also, my car had food and soda splatter everywhere, and my carpets had spots everywhere too. Seriously, yuck!! So it’s time for some fall cleaning.

I couldn’t be luckier because I opened the door yesterday and Lisa was standing there!! She surprised me with a visit and a birthday cake. She Rocks!

So what do I do to reward my giving sister? I put her to work! We vacuumed and shampooed the carpets in both our cars. (If you notice Drake in the background – I found out pretty quickly after taking this picture – that he was SIPPING old soda out of the trash can! YUCK! He’s totally busted in this pic.)

Lisa touched up the wall paint throughout my entire house, and I touched up the pait on all the doors and baseboards. Yeah!!

Lastly, I shampooed the carpets downstairs. Here’s Drake helping me pre-treat by rubbing it in. 🙂 It was such a productive day! Thanks Lisa!!

I Have the Best Sister!

I’ve just got to brag a bit and give my sister her proper props!! I got a huge package in the mail last Friday. After my honey confirmed it wasn’t from him, I opened it and was in complete shock and awe!!

Not only did Lisa research and find exactly what I wanted for my birthday (these two wall iron pieces), she rounded up cash from my family to pay for it. She’s seriously THE BEST!! Thank You! Thank you to everyone who chipped in and especially thank you to Lisa who did all the work to make the day such a special one.

Back story: In August when we went to Canton, I showed Lisa these wall hangings I wanted for my birthday. I used much restraint and decided to wait until September. Well, to make a long sad story short, I couldn’t go to Canton in September. I was really bummed out because this is all I wanted for my b-day and now I had to wait until October. (It’s only 1 weekend a month).

Lisa to the rescue!! I was so surprised and excited. (Yes, jumping up and down screaming, the whole bit.) I waited until my actual birthday to hang them up. They’re the perfect size, color, and decor I needed for that space. YOU ROCK LISA!!!

If you don’t already read Lisa’s blog you should! She’s so freaking funny! (And obviously wonderful!) 😉

Laurie & Rochelle’s Birthday Bash 2007

As promised, here are some fun pics of the birthday party. Rochelle and I made T-shirts to proudly display our ages. We both agree that you should own it and wear it proudly, so we did! Julie used this “L” bling on top of my present so I decided to wear it. Rock On! My soul sista’s coming out again. 🙂

Katrina and Katri made Rochelle and me these AMAZING pajama pants!! They did such an incredible job and they added little extras to them…

On mine, they sewed “Shoot Yeah!” on the side!! Seriously, those girls ROCK!

I helped organize Rochelle’s birthday basket with her P.J. pants and it didn’t even occur to me that they would make me some. But they did one better than that, they made P.J. pants for themselves too!

Here are the goody bags I made for the pinata loot.

Here’s our pinata…

Filled with 73 pieces of jewelry, bookmarks, and other beauty stuff.
It was such a fun part of the night!
We played “Gorilla” and “What if/Then” which was so crazy fun. My belly hurt I was laughing so hard. I just have to thank everyone who came and made the night so much fun. I left feeling like everyone had as much fun as I did! I hope that was the case.

I am so grateful that I have found such a fun, accepting, non-judgemental, and crazy group of girl friends. We are each so different from each other but embrace that fact. We can let loose and be ourselves with each other. We can also be real: real sassy, real moody, really happy, really sad. I adore that about these friends and feel so blessed to have them in my life.

Thank You Ladies!! You made my birthday so special and lively. I couldn’t have asked for more!

Birthday Bash

The birthday bash was so much fun last night! This morning (after only 4 1/2 hours of sleep) I feel so blessed to have such thoughtful and wonderful friends. I’m still gathering pictures of the party from Rochelle and Katri, but in the meantime here are some of the things I’ve been working on this week to get ready for the party.

Rochelle and I filled a pinata with jewelry, book marks, and lots of yummies! Here are the goodie bags I made to put their loot in. (The label is the first pic on this post.)

I made some “Shoot Yeah!” key chains out of shrinky-dinks to go into the pinata. For those of you who haven’t had a verbal conversation with me, I say that a lot. 😉
I also made these beaded bookmarks. They are so easy and fun to make. I always feel so girly and cute when I’m reading a book with a fun bookmark. I’ve put the instructions on how to make these on ExecutiveHomemaker.com, click here. They make great gifts and are fun to add to a lesson hand out.

Rochelle and I are proud of our age and decided to own it! 😉
