Science Night at the Intermediate School

While I was volunteering in Davis’ classroom, his teacher reminded me about Science night. She was telling me all about it and all of her preparations for the big day. I knew that if Davis’ teacher was involved, it was going to be amazing. So that night I packed up the boys for another adventure.

The boys were in heaven in 12+ tables of hands-on experiments and projects to make. Drake saw the goggles and said, “Hey that’s Nemo’s!” He was so cute as he insisted on wearing goggles at every single table – even if they didn’t require them. {{snicker}}

I only have a couple pictures of Dylan because he was a dude on a mission! He explored and absorbed everything around him. Even from across the room, I could see his little brain working to make sense and learn from every table.

We ran into this little cutie and Drake lit up. He took her over to his favorite station – the one with dirt – of course!

Davis made this seriously impressive circuit with over 10 wires, light bubs, and batteries. His goal was to use as many objects on the table as possible. I think he succeeded. Drake and Davis stayed at this table for almost 20 minutes.

Needless to say, everyone had an amazing time. Huge thanks to all the Science teachers and faculty who made the evening such a cool hands-on experience. It was truly amazing to see children from 3 – 11 years old engaged and memorized. Now if I could only do that in my own home. {{wink}}

Pinewood Derby

Pinewood derby was last week and Holy Moly was it a doozy. The actual race day went well and Dylan placed 6th. He was pleased and I was relieved!

Jason went out of town very last minute and therefore I was left to make my first pinewood derby race car. I was in panic mode as Jason pulls out all the stops every year to ensure a winning car. I’m talking special sandpaper for the nails and wheels, graphite on the thingy mabop, and specific weights which are supposed to do something that I just don’t understand.

My goal was not to be dead last.

Graciously the Scout Master took pity on us and helped cut the car. At least Dylan didn’t have a block of wood on wheels racing down the track. HA!

Good news is we found a cool gator skin and made it look as fabulous as we could. Although, we barely survived the official weigh in where Dylan might have gotten in a scuffle defending Davis from kids with a football. {{long story}} At least there was some bonding time for mom and Dylbil. {{the bright side}}

Disaster barely averted and another memory made in Scouts. Gotta love it. We grabbed a friend and ended the night savoring ice cream cones because mama needed a treat. Naturally, I told the boys it was their reward for wonderful behavior and a job well done for Dylan. But we all know mama needed some comfort food from the trauma of a very long single-mom week. {{wink}}

I So Want This!

Drake’s birthday party is this Friday and there’s a ton to do. Lisa and I took Drake to the toy store last week to find out what on earth he wanted. After seconds, it became obvious.

He kept saying, “I so want this!” {{fists raised in air backwards}} Over and over again. It was hysterical.

More batman {{seeing a trend?!?}}

Needless to say, we had a blast at Toys R Us. I don’t know who had the better time, Drake or Lisa? I’ll let you be the judge.

Lastly, our adventure ended at the party store where we stocked up on batman accessories and even bought a Batman costume for Drake to sport on his big day.

There’s SO much to do! I’d better get to it… {{sigh}}

Let’s Roll!

The kiddos had a couple days off of school and we spent both days with friends. We also did one of the boys favorite activities – bowling.

They are each pretty competitive and take the game very seriously.

This was Drake’s expression after every bowl. It was so funny!

Every one had a great time and were very considerate of each others feelings. Even with the serious competitive drive each child has.

I really enjoy how much my boys love each other. With all their trials – getting along isn’t one of them. {{knock on some serious wood}}

Drake and Dylan were cracking me up with their enthusiasm and how proud of each other they were after a strike.

You can’t have a family outing with out some crazy pictures. {{wink}}

I was able to catch this impromptu moment on film. Emily had just bowled a strike and jumped into Wendy’s arms to celebrate. It was darling.

Good times.

Welcome Strawberry Shortcake

I can not even begin to explain the joy that this little sweetie (in pink) brings into my home. She’s beautiful, playful, loving, decisive , and stubborn. She likes to be in control but also the life of the party. She also has the best giggle! I swear, I could listen to her tell stories and giggle all day long.

Alas, I only get her one day a week (two if I beg) and during preschool carpool. She not only lights up my world – but the two little Lightening McQueen obsessed fans pictured above.

They’ve become bored with my Loving Family Doll House, the kitchen play set, and the Polly Pockets. We’re massively overdue for new girl toys, so I added Strawberry Shortcake to our collection. She was a hit! I made sure I bought the little buggie for Drake to play with and the other two were quite content with the food, puppy, and dolls.

Even my older boys had to check it out. {{Shhh. Don’t tell.}} I’ve always known life’s a little sweeter with cake. {{wink}}

Time to Give

Now that the boys are getting older, I thought it would be a good idea to have them buy each other a Christmas gift. It was a brilliant idea I daydreamed one morning of 3 boys scouring Toys R Us with the exact gift in mind for their sibling. Shopping would be done in a matter of minutes and the hardest part would be checking out.

Well… things didn’t go that smoothly with the Turk boys. However, they each ended up with presents for one other. However, Davis was the only one who came in under budget. The other two were just too convinced that higher priced item was the best one.

Yes, I caved. I love toys!

We got home and they each wrapped their gifts (with the correct wrapping paper – each boy has their own) and put them under the tree.

It was a fun afternoon. Huge thanks to Lisa for her help in wrangling the boys and helping to hide the gifts at check out. They should all be surprised come Christmas morning.

All in a Tuesday

Mom life is a bit hectic right now. My oldest is full force into adolescence which comes with many new experiences. I’ve been reading like a maniac (while in the carpool line and random places when I have a couple minutes) and trying to get a grasp on this new life.

Since Davis started Intermediate school, I have felt a huge disconnect in our relationship. Things have been stressful at home. Therefore, I decided to volunteer on Tuesdays in Davis’ classroom during the Science lab and then we go to lunch together.

I love being there on Tuesdays. It’s a GT class (gifted and talented) so they do the coolest labs! It’s been really fun to see Davis present his project that he’s made with his team.

Davis pretty much ignores me during class and lets me get my work done. (I kindly return the favor.) We usually get to leave first and walk hand in hand to the cafeteria. During that time I listen to all kinds of chatter as he tells me everything and anything that’s on his mind.

It’s been a relief to have this time to focus just on him.

Right after lunch with Davis, I swing through Sonic and grab lunch and 2 route 44 Diet Cokes, easy ice, with lime, for me and Christina (Dylan’s teacher). Then I head on over just in time to have lunch with Dylan.

I guess some might think it’s kind of silly to pay to have my youngest in pre-school so I can hang out with my older 2 boys. (Many days I do too.) However, with the stress of life and the constant work load that I have, it’s so nice to just hang out for 35 minutes and talk to their friends and really let them know that I am there. No matter what, every week.

After lunch, I only have about an hour before Drake gets home. This time, I got my eyebrows threaded. Finally! I was growing an intense uni-brow that has been somewhat embarrassing lately. I’ve been using a new chic and she HURTS. She uses a different technique and she’s really slow. It’s such a bummer. I’ve got to find out where the other “threader” girl is.

I ended last Tuesday at The Pioneer Woman’s book signing in Dallas with Erica and LeAnne. We were able to buy our cookbooks already signed.

We met up with Amy and had such a fun time. Sadly, we had to leave before we could actually meet Ree. I had a babysitter and had to get home. Amy didn’t get to meet her at 2 am. Holy Cow!

btw: I LOVE the cookbook! It’s set up just like a blog with step-by-step pictures and tutorials. She also cooks comfort food, which is my favorite. I just might actually have to cook something out of it one day. I mainly went to support a fellow blogger and congratulate her on her success. However, the book is so BEAUTIFUL it would make an amazing Christmas gift.
