Feed the Children

One of the activities I’ve looked forward to this summer is “Feed the Children“. It’s a program organized by a Realtor where different churches and groups take turns feeding children in a specific area of town.

You can tell that this Realtor just loves these kiddos as it takes a lot of coordination to pull this off every summer. Once again, I was in charge of face painting! Basically, I’m crowd control and provide an activity for those kiddos waiting to be served.

This year Davis really got into it as well. He’s artistic by nature and couldn’t wait to get started. He did a great job and I was proud of him.

Each child was able to take home their very own book. We also had bubbles and stickers to keep the kiddos entertained.

This year Megan went all out as she even got a cover band to come and entertain us! They were great and it was really nice to have some music playing in the background. I couldn’t believe how fast the time flew. We ended up feeding 113 children that afternoon.

Thanks Ladies! I had such a wonderful day and my boys loved the feeling they had while serving the children as well. I can’t wait until next year!

Slim and Sculpt

After months of working out alone, I’ve finally gotten a work out partner! His form is fantastic for his first time! Notice he’s totally looking at the TV screen to know what to do. {{snicker}}

It’s about time that I retire my latest workout routine, 10 Minute Solutions Slim & Sculpt Pilates.

Pros:

I can queue up several 10 minute work outs or do just 1.
It’s quick.
I like using the band.
It works.

Cons: I’m bored to tears with it.

Any suggestions?

Skater Boi

Obi Wan: “News just in! My bros Davis & Dylan just got skateboards.”

Astronaut: “That is totally tubular dude. Are their skills gnarly?”

Obi Wan: “Robot is on the scene and here to report if they are sketchy or smooth…”

Look out Avril, I’ve now got 2 Skater Boi’s! Dude. Davis and Dylan are growing up right before my eyes. I think they grew an inch the morning we took then to buy their first skateboards. They’re now walking taller and will be speaking slang in no time. {{heaven help me}}

Man that is off the hook, where’d you get that shirt? Dude, Davis that kickflip was diamondz!

Man, you get mad props for that skill. Dude it’s totally killer. I noticed Davis is pumping mongo. Did he just 50-50 that double kink?

Dude.

Budding Entrepreneurs

Every summer Davis has a lemonade stand. They sell Minute Maid soda’s and bottled water. Yes, it’s a proud moment for me as a mama as I see little budding entrepreneurs in action.

If it’s a slow day, they’ll put their cooler in a wagon and sell door to door. No, I’m not kidding. They can get a bit inpatient.

However, today was a busy day as they sold out their inventory and made $10.50 (including tips)!

Dylan put his portion into his treasure chest and now can’t find the key. I guess that’s one way to save your money. {{bwaaah!}}

Swim Team

We’ve been living and breathing swim team this summer. It’s been a great experience for the boys. This year Lisa, Wendy, and I have a great system set up as we are trading off watching the 3 year olds. Whoohoo!

This means that one watches Drake, Emily, and Tyson in the comfort of our own home while the other two are volunteering and getting the kiddos to their proper races. It’s been so nice to be completely focused and able to participate and encourage the kids. This year by far has been the most enjoyable. {{hugs to good friends}}

Davis is continuing to make great improvements and is enjoying it a lot more.

Since this is Dylan’s first year, I started him out with only 1 race per meet. Now he now is up to 5 or 6 and really excelling. I think he’s found his groove as he rocks at the breast stroke!

Drake Had a Baby

So Drake has been constipated for about 5 days and I’ve been giving him some medication to help out. It worked and the other morning he came to me and said he had a baby!

I’m not kidding, the poor little guy thinks he went through labor and delivered his own 2 lb baby. {{fall on the floor laughing}} It wasn’t fun to clean up – but he was happier and very proud of his accomplishment.

Growing Up is Hard to Do

It’s official, Davis is now acting like a tween. He’s been begging to mow the lawn as well as displaying his independence. Davis has new found abilities like washing the car and doing mom’s chores to earn money.

It’s a new stage for us that we are both excited about and both a little weary. I can tell that he desperately wants to grow up however, he still wants the perks of being a young kid. He’s completely torn between these worlds as displayed with his complete meltdowns a couple times a day.

It’s important to him that I “listen to what he is saying” as he repeats this phrase several times a day. It’s quite comical as he doesn’t realize that asking in a more grown up way will not change my answer to “yes”. {{wink}}

I realize that it’s important to him that I talk to him and treat him differently; so I’ve been trying to be more aware of my tone and how I approach him. I admit this is going to take a little getting used to as I still see him as my little boy (and he still acts like one).

He’s also been more affectionate and seems to need a lot of hugs and encouragement. This part is easy! I hope he lets me hug and squeeze him forever.

Although this transition is a bit of a tough one I’m relieved to see that my little guy is budding into a bright young man.

Christmas in June

Look what the boys found hidden under the bed in the guest room. I cannot tell you how excited they were with their new found treasure.

I bought those huge candy canes for Christmas last year because I’ve never forgotten how I felt when I received one as a child. It was such a delight and surprise for me and I wanted to give that experience to my boys.

With my back drama, I had completely forgot that I had hid them there. I guess it’s not a total waste as it’s officially Christmas in June in our home. The boys are enjoying their minty delight in the middle of summer. {{yummy}}
