Par-Tay!

The next 8 days are filled with several birthday celebrations for friends. It seems like feast or famine regarding birthdays around here.

Party #1

I had the opportunity to party with my 2 different groups of amazing ladies on the same night! Lucky me!!! Seriously, it couldn’t have come on a better week.

First up, at 6:30, I celebrated Jennifer’s birthday. She’s a fellow blogger but it’s private. {{bummer}} She’s an amazingly talented and driven woman, whom I feel so blessed to know.

Her boys are my boys ages and they are such wonderful examples and fun play mates to have around. Jennifer’s little girl Ella is a complete delight and brightens up my home when she’s here. Secretly I want to kidnap her – OK maybe it’s not really a secret. She’s just so verbal and giggly I can’t help but love the time I have with her.

Party #2

Then I celebrated Lisa’s birthday at 9:00, at the same restaurant. Yep! Party #1 ended at 8:30 so it was perfect timing. You’ll recognize a couple faces in this group, Rochelle and Chanda.

I think that my friend Lisa is the perfect blend of my sister Lisa and me. She has my sister’s athleticism, sarcasm, and wit combined with my body type, personal style (we have the same favorite clothing store), obsession with hair, and craftiness. I’m a bit jealous, personally. I’d love to be more like my sister!

Julie is never one to disappoint when it comes to getting a crazy picture. I LOVE this about her!

Happy Birthday Lisa!! (on the left)

Isn’t Chanda’s little girl adorable!! She’s another one that I would risk jail time to steal for a day. {{kidding, sort of}}

Speaking of birthday parties, I need some more unique celebration ideas. Be sure to share!!

The Truth

“The Truth” by Good Charlotte, music only

I guess it is only appropriate that this is my 250th post. It’s a milestone for me personally and a defining moment for my middle son, Dylan.

I finally got a call from Dylan’s psychologist yesterday and Dylan has been officially diagnosed with ADHD. I haven’t received all the results yet, just verbal confirmation on how to proceed.

“Dylan scored way above average on perceptual reasoning and average on verbal comprehension. He has an average working memory but a low processing speed. He’s a visual learner and will need visuals to help reinforce learning.”

I’ve started the process of having Dylan’s medical records transferred to Davis’ pediatrician and talked to the nurse to schedule the appointment to have him evaluated for medication.

This is a very emotional time for me, especially since I’ve been noticing some issues with my youngest son as well. I’ve been grieving inwardly and trying to come to terms with my vision vs. my reality of the family I’m raising.

I’m a terrible liar – yep even to myself. ha ha I feel that even though it can be very tough, knowing the truth is better than living in denial. “Truth Hurts!” Who ever came up with that phrase wasn’t kidding.

I guess it’s time to finish reading all the books I’ve been collecting on the subject. Drat! I need some quality time in my bathroom.

TV Time!

Dance War: Are you glad that Team Bruno won? Personally, I liked the people better on Team Carrie Ann’s team but I thought Team Bruno had more talent.

Prison Break: What do you think about Michael’s vengence? I know they need a new story line but going after Susan? hmm.

We all know she’s a puppet and is going to get hers in the end one way or the other. I do feel for poor Fernando. Poor guy – he’s got some bad juju!

Messy Pants!

Drake is now officially eating food. Yeah! However, this long awaited struggle has come with a down side.

Needless to say cheetos are now banned from the house. And this handprint is in my bedroom! As you can imagine my walls are a mess and my floor is worse. I had forgotten how messy toddlers are. So today I spot cleaned my carpets and touched up the paint in the house. Again!

When I was getting ready this morning, Drake picked up his brush and the hairspray and tried to do his own hair. Too funny! He cleans up pretty well don’t you think. 😉 (He LOVES to get this hair done.)

One of the perks of high functioning autism (for Davis, not me) is that he has the most amazing memory. Over the weekend he asked if we could get the Matchbox Hero City out of the attic. What!?! He got this when he was 5 years old. It’s been so long since I’ve seen this I had to check 2 attics before I found it. Now he’s on a rampage to find the cars that go with it. Good Luck Davis, I think I might have donated them. {{oops}}

While I was combing the attics I found the Surprise Box that has the Blue’s Clues toys in it. Drake is a Blue’s Clues FANATIC!! I’m not exaggerating. He’s been in hog heaven playing with his Handy Dandy Notebook, play house, books, and toys. Lucky me!

Grandparent Post

Over the weekend our family was a mix of American Idol, Guitar Hero, and America’s Funniest Home Videos! Notice Drake really getting into it. He was actually “singing”. ha ha

Guitar Hero has brought a new dimension to our family togetherness. Not only are there now fights for the guitars, but Davis is singing rock songs instead of Justin Timberlake. {{bummer}}

Even Toby (aka “Bobby” to Drake) got some love.

Dear Boys

Dear Davis & Dylan,

I know that we have had a tough week. But I want you to know that I am not your friend, I am your Mommy. I am determined to do my best as a Mommy and raise you to be wonderful husbands and fathers. No matter what it takes.

I overheard you guys complaining about me the other night and I want you to know that it didn’t hurt my feelings. I’ve complained about you to your daddy a lot this week too!

I’m sorry that I have to teach you to responsibility.

I’m sorry that you choose to learn the hard way about the primary principle of cause and effect – in this case known as consequences to decisions.

I’m not quite sure where you got the idea that:

  • Life is fair.
  • Life is easy.

I certainly don’t believe either of those statements. Life is hard work and completely unjust!

I know it’s tough that when you make life harder for Mom, you then have to do some of her chores to make life easier for Mom – but that’s just how it works in our house.

“Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it.” I hope that we don’t have to repeat the entire proceess over tomorrow, but if we do, I’ll love you no matter what. It will be hard to LIKE you, but I’ll always love you.

Love you when you’re choosing right and wrong,

Mommy

Valentine’s Day Celebrations

My man doesn’t get enough love on my blog, poor guy! He planned a double date for us with some friends for Valentine’s Day. Jason arranged for us to eat at Del Frisco’s steak house. Yummy!! I always feel so grown up when I eat at a swanky restaurant.

Oh well, I guess not grown up enough! he he We had the best time: great conversation, great food, and great company. Thanks honey!

Valentine morning I made the boys pancakes (even though I was so tired!!) and gave them their sweet treats. They got watches. Davis was so busy programming his, he wouldn’t look up for a picture. Needless to say they loved it!

I found these awesome Ring Pop Valentines and they were a hit. Here’s Dylan’s class posing for a picture.

Dylan’s Valentine

I don’t know about your boys, but mine won’t tell me a thing about their love life. So every year, I buy 2 extra sets of chocolates and let the boys know that they’re welcome to give it to their “Valentine” if they’d like to.

Dylan’s Valentine

Every year they take me up on it. This is how I find out who they’re crushing on. (sneeky I know) It’s nice to know that my boys have such great taste in girls. I met both their Moms at the party and I approve. 😉

Davis got a little crazy with the camera at his party. He took this picture of me and Drake.

I finally found out what happened to Dylan’s 100 day project. He told me that his teacher let all the other kids take theirs home but he didn’t get to.

I was a little worried with all the problems we’ve been having. However, I was delighted to find out that our 100 eyeballs are now on display. This was such a wonderful thing for him!

I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day with your loved ones.
