Lunch with the Girls

Some of my friends arranged a luncheon yesterday. Yummy food and great friends, what a combo.

Tatiana made this dessert with a white cake, poked holes, and then added jello. It was moist and full of flavor, yummy!

Drake, however, has not grasped the concept of Mommy’s birthday week. Hmmm.

Birthday Party Ideas

I love to throw birthday parties for my friends. It think that at least once a year you should let the people close to you know how much you appreciate them.

Here are some of my Girlfriend Birthday Party Ideas:

1. Around the Clock Birthday: This is a great spin on the surprise birthday party. Have friends and family members go to the birthday girl’s house every hour on the hour.

2. Spin on the Gift Card: Instead of collecting money and buying a generic gift card, attach the money to something that represents the gift. Click on the link for more details.

3. I’ve already given my Friends are Like Flowers idea.

4. House of Money: I’ve done this recently as well. My friend wanted money to decorate her house, so I made this house and filled the windows, door, etc with cash.

5. Song Card w/ CD: Katri submitted this tip to Executive Homemaker, she made her friend a CD and then worked the song titles into the card.

You can get further instructions and pictures at ExecutiveHomemaker.com under Gift Ideas then Girlfriend Birthdays.

Here’s a great tile my friend gave as a birthday gift idea. Enjoy and throw a kick-butt birthday bash for a good friend. Also, I’m in desperate need of some new ideas. So if you’ve got one please leave me a comment! Y’all rock!!

Birthday Week!

It’s my birthday week! Yesterday Rochelle and I went shopping and bought party favors for the big bash this Friday Night. Today I worked on my Witch Switch project with 2 other friends. I’m crafting all week and I can’t think of a better way to spend my birthday week. {{big smile}}

Today I got a call and it looks like I’m going to get a different calling (or responsibility) at church. I’m worried… Right now I sing songs in the nursery (18 months – 3 year olds). It’s super fun and requires a whopping 10 minutes of my time. I use the Song Box. I’m pretty much tone deaf but we clap enthusiastically after every song and the kids love it! Have I told you I don’t like change. 🙁

100th Post! – Blogging o’ Mine!

So for my 100th post (20 posts ago) I was going to video tape myself sing y’all this song that I wrote modified from Bowling for Soup’s song Friends o’ Mine. Needless to say I’ve had many obstacles, I don’t have a digital video camera, I can’t sing, and I don’t have the time to figure it out. 🙁 So here’s the original song and my lyrics.

Blogging o’ Mine

Commenting tons but we made it this far
Some have gone but I forget who they are
Now the withdrawal’s the worst but we get through it fine
Glued to our screens but we’re not lazy
Getting
older but we’re still crazy
I’m so glad that I’m doing this blogging o’ mine!

It started out at a Maven’s group in a most unlikely town
There was some teasing made by me but I tried it out anyhow
We stuck together through the good and bad times
No comments, swaps, girl power all the time
I’m so glad that I’m doing this blogging o’ mine!

And chores, kids, and obstacles did all but break us down
Girls nights, and blogging groups, in every major town
I’ve got your back, you’ve got mine
Like Matthew says, “Let your light so shine!”
And you can always count on me for one last post!

We see the world and the world seems smaller
We’re getting wider but not getting no taller
I know we’ve grown up just a little bit at a time
Glued to our screens but we’re not lazy
Getting older but we’re still crazy
I’m so glad that I’m blogging all the time!

Party Time!

We had Dylan’s 7th birthday party on Friday. It was so much fun! He wanted a transformer party.

The Invitation

TOP SECRET! You are asked to help on a special rescue mission. Galvatron has stolen the matrix, without its wisdom and power the Autobots will be defenseless against the evil Decepticons. They plan to steal all the earth’s resources and destroy it. Please help the Autobots get the matrix back and save the earth. Join Dylan at our secret base, etc…

We went on a hunt for the stolen matrix.

Played memory Transformer style by matching up the guy to what it transforms into.

Played Transformer Bingo that I made. You can print it out for free on ExecutiveHomemaker.com.

Can you tell this is my kid!?!

After the hunt, snacks, presents, and cake, they watched the old Transformers movie upstairs.

I made each guest their own Transformer Bingo game as their party favor with a package of M&M’s inside. I play every bingo game with candy. 😉

Davis was home sick on Friday and made the “Happy Birthday” banner by drawing and cutting out each letter and then tying it together individually w/ string. I was really proud of him!

I uploaded everything including the agenda for the Transformer party onto ExecutiveHomemaker.com and you can print it out free, click here.

Mama Bear Came Out!

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before but last year I had to hire an attorney to help me mediate with our school district. A little background, Davis has been mainstreamed but in Special Education under the Autism umbrella for 4 1/2 years. He was diagnosed with PDD NOS (lame man’s terms = high functioning autism) since he was 4.

Then we move to Keller (a new school district), they test him, and… they tell me he doesn’t have autism! They think I should be so realieved to know that Davis does not have autism. Davis tested 3 digits above the autism allowance and therefore he will not be receiving any special accomodations and exited out of special ed and speech therapy. (Mind you this was after 45 minutes of talking about the 12 page list of his deficits.) To make a long story short, I exploded and hired an attorney that day.
I had my 3 hour ARD meeting this week and let’s just say, Mama Bear Came Out once again! The director over Special Ed tried to imply that my phycologist (a new outside assemesment) lied in his report and was going through it line by line and refuting it. That was only in the first 5 min of our meeting.
I’ll spare you the play by play but let’s just say I had to get ugly. With my soul sista head nod and finger point, I let them know that under no circumstances am I going to let them negate my 8 years of hard work, structure, self-concept, and social skills training with Davis. Not to mention the thousands of dollars I’ve spent on therapies, special diets, and medical testing to let them overturn his diagnois to ADHD because they say so. I told them that obviously they have no idea who they are dealing with because they are kidding themselves if they think I don’t fully intend to use every resource in my power to advocate for my son.
We left the meeting agreeing to let them do more testing around language and comprehension and meet again in a month.

After 100 pages of documentation, 4 doctors, lots of medical tests, play therapy, occupational therapy, etc. over 4 1/2 years. I don’t know what will prove it.
I’m tired.

Hygiene 101

Last night while I was getting Drake ready for bed, Dylan is so excited and tells me that he wants to show me something when I come downstairs. His birthday is Sunday, so I immediately assume that he’s found a commercial of a toy he wants. When I get downstairs Dylan rewinds the Tivo to a commercial alright, but it’s not a product for him…

Yes! My 6 year old son rubbed my arm and said, “Yep! You’re hairy!” and continues to tell me about this product the Tweeze. I don’t know how many times he rewound the commercial but he knew it by heart. He told me all about how, “I could use it anywhere on my body and it pulls the hair out from the root!” He was bummed that it was $60, “Because that’s a LOT of money.”

Ladies, I was trying so hard to keep a straight face! I’m glad to know that my 6 year old son’s got my back when it comes to personal hygiene.

Witch Switch

I’ve finally joined a swap! I’ve been a blog swap commitment-phobe. However, Halloween is my favorite holiday so I’ve decided to join the Witch Switch. If you want to join, do it quickly. It closes Friday.

The guidelines are simple:

1. Everyone makes or buys a gift for another witch that has something to do with Halloween
2. It needs to be around $20-$25 excluding shipping
3. It needs to be in the hands of the Recipient by October 8th.
If you would like to participate please just click here and e-mail her with your name, address, and 5 fun facts about yourself by September 7th. I’ve already started making mine and I’m soo excited about it! My partner will not be disappointed. 😉
