End of the School Year Party

It’s that time of year already – end of the school year. {{help!}} The boys have some really amazing room mom who’s went all out this year. Dylan’s class started out with a picnic outside and then they had each took a turn getting their hand painted for the 1st grade banner.

Their class is the first 1st grade class in this school – so their banner will be hung in the library next year and then put in the time capsule. Cute idea. All the kids loved getting their hands painted.

Then it was outside for snow cones,

Flag thingies (technical name of course) – fabric strips stapled on rulers. It was so windy the kids had a blast playing with them.

And lots of bubbles!

Drake was treated like a rockstar during the festivities. He did what ever they told him to do and quite enjoyed the attention.

Davis’ class had a luau! The room moms cut up the table cloths and rotated the colors around the semicircle of desks. Each student had a tiki cup, sand bucket with fun summer sayings on it and filled with lots of candy, a lei, and a cute T-shirt made into a pillow.

Can you see the T-shirt in this picture? I know the picture is blurred {{bad camera}}. She ironed on a fun tag that had each person’s name on it and their teacher’s name. Sewed the bottom and arms shut, filled it with batting, then sewed the head hole.

During the part they passed them around the circle and everyone signed it. What a great idea!! The kids loved them.

Several of the kids dressed up and made masks for the party.

They even decorated their Webkinz, wore flowers in their hair, and decorated their water bottles.

For the end of the year teacher gift, the room mom had a picture and letter framed. All the kids signed the picture mat. I thought that was a very thoughtful gift.

It was a fun filled day! Bless you room mom’s for being so creative and fun.

Childhood Trauma

Childhood is filled with traumatic experiences. Some are consequences to behavior, some situations your born into, but in Davis’ case it’s all about the DNA.

Almost 2 months ago Davis got upper and lower expander’s. They have been a thorn in my side since the day they were put in. Today I had them removed.

I won’t bore you with details but basically he couldn’t swallow his 5:00 am medication and its a serious problem we’ve been struggling with. Some days it would be 6:00 am using everything conceivable and he still hadn’t swallowed it.

Needless to say I’ve been looking forward to today. I should have known that we’d have another one of these experiences. Our 10 minute appointment turned into 70 minutes of crying and screaming. One day I’ll learn and send Jason instead. 😉

During our ortho appointment the nurse said that Davis deserved a donut for his bravery. I happily agreed since Mom’s an emotional eater and needed something sweet as well to drown out the anxiety.

I noticed as I pulled up to the donut shop that there was a hair cutting place next door. So after we were all sugared up, I suggested that we go get Drake’s hair cut while Davis finishes his root beer.

We weren’t in the shop 2 minutes before Davis knocked his root beer over and it exploded like ‘Old Faithful’. {{geeze!}} I cleaned myself up and got Drake in the chair all ready for a new do.

I don’t know what I was thinking because of course half way through he LOST IT and it I had visions of the ortho all over again.

Because I’m a glutton for punishment I took Davis back to school and then headed over to Wal-mart. Have you noticed the Dodge Viper power wheels they display right next to all the shampoo? Drake has!

He cried and cried uncontrollably “Car” and “Down!” for longer than I’d care to say. Dadblasted you power wheel companies for being soo cool and over priced. You’re making my shopping trips unbearable.

After all this – I still had to unload all the groceries from our shopping trip. I’m emotionally and physically exhausted. I’m not sure who’s more traumatized after today, the kids or me.

I took a nap.

Drakie, Drakie, bo bakie!

I found this shirt and had to get it. “My parents are exhausted.” No doubt, my little guy.

Drake is a stubborn little guy that pretty much refuses to speak. He cries, points, and makes weird noises to demonstrate what he wants. (Notice the fake cry in the picture.)

His absolute favorite thing to watch is Blue’s Clues. Drake can say “Bu Cu” (blues clues), “Dar” (star), “Kirkle” (cirlce), “Quare” (square), and “Matenta” (Magenta) along with a couple other words.

Yes Ladies. Drake can say “Magenta” not “milk” but magenta!

I’ve decided that he is a very deceptive little guy. We’ve been having the hardest time getting him to share. I keep telling myself that it’s age appropriate and be patient.

Well! One day we were having a play date and he brought me 2 Capri Suns to open. I thought it was weird but I opened them both up and then followed him to see what he did with them. He drank one and gave one to this cutie pie!

You could have pushed me over with a feather, I was so shocked! What?!? He knows the concept of sharing and kindness!

Every morning starting at around 8 am, Drake starts asking “Bye bye?” It is a constant question followed with “Shoes?” and knocking at the door. He’s even started saying ” C’mon” and taking me to his shoes.

You need to understand that he doesn’t actually like shopping or having me leave him at play dates. He just wants the car ride. Which of course, can’t be too long or too short.

Today he did it again. We have 2 “thinking chairs”, one is downstairs and the other is upstairs in the media room. A new play date arrived and sat in his thinking chair. Instead of the normal throwing a tantrum followed with pushing and pulling, he went upstairs and threw his other chair down the stairs. Then he pulled it right next to John and sat in it quietly and happily.

All I have to say Drakie, is “Dude, I am on to you!” He totally, knows way more than he’s letting on.

Since Drake has made a couple attempts at potty training, I took the oportunity one morning to teach the boys how to change a diaper. All things considered it went well. However, they’ll need a couple more lessons before they’ll graduate from the class.

Pinewood Derby

Today was a big day for our family. Davis earned his Bear Scout, yeah! Here he is pinning the Mom pin on my collar.

It was also the Pinewood Derby. Davis drew a picture of the car he wanted and Jason realized that it looked just like the Speed Racer car! We did our best and here’s how it turned out.

Ready, Set, Go!

He won the ‘Most Futuristic Award’ and 1st Place!! No joke. Not only 1st place but he broke a track record. {{dumb-founded}} Who knew? No one was more surprised than Jason and me.

After he won, I felt a little silly because Laurie M. and I were hamming it up by trash talking to each other all night. Her son and mine had each won all 3 races but we didn’t actually race each other. So when her son won 2nd place – I just assumed we got 4th or something. We were shocked. Great Job Sweetie!

Hoppin’ Easter!

I hope everyone had a “Hoppy Easter”! It was a fun one for us. The boys and I did a bit of traveling over the weekend. My bother, who just came back from his mission, was speaking in Houston and I wanted to be sure to support him. So we made the 4 hour trek.

*Update – I’m not preggers. This shirt is just sheer and flowy. 😉 ha ha

First, we made a stop over at Lisa’s. Her church was having a carnival and we decided to take the boys. I’m so glad we did, they went all out! Here we are at the petting zoo. Drake loved the horse and miniature monkey. He kept going back to see them.

Lisa and I competed in the human bungee race. She beat me, but only by like 2 inches! Considering she’s a lot taller than I am, I was proud of myself. We did it several times with the same result. It was the highlight of the carnival for me.

Both boys took their turn.

After the carnival we took a 3 mile walk and then the boys played in the sprinklers in Lisa’s backyard. Afterwards, they took a quick bath.

That night we had an Easter egg hunt but we used these “Lights Out!” eggs in complete darkness. I got them at Wal-mart. They each come with one golden egg. Everyone had such a blast! I think this will be a new tradition we adopt at our house.

I was delighted to not have to cook and color eggs this year. Yeah!

Here’s Davis in the dark showing off his eggs.

Sunday we listened to Scott’s talk. He sang a musical number as well and did such an amazing job. I was glad we make the extra effort to be there.

Lisa and I were up to no good and made everyone do silly poses for our blogs. This is us with our Mom (middle).

The boys loved what the “Easter Bunny” delivered, Webkinz. I don’t do much candy since our house is crazy enough without it. 😉

We tried and tried to get a nice picture with the cousins, but it just wasn’t happening.

We had a traditional hunt Sunday afternoon then everyone played a little throw football.

I love it that 2 of my boys were old enough to play and hang out with their Uncles. I realized that it won’t be long until they’re as tall as I am and asking for money. I felt like time slowed down a little for me to cease the moment. I’m glad I have this blog to capture the moment again.

What was your favorite family moment yesterday?

Conversing with a 3 year old

(Picture taken from Drake’s birthday party)

Every other Monday, I have the privilege of a play date with Emily. She’s 3 and so fun and sassy. I absolutely eat it up! She’s an excellent conversationalist, yep even better than my 9 year old. She has the best giggle’s and is such a happy little girl.

Here’s one of our conversations we had today:

Emily: “Where’s your daughter?”

Me: “I don’t have a daughter.”

Emily: “No, what’s her name?”

Me: “Who’s name?”

Emily: “Your daughters name!” {{aggravated by having to repeat herself}}

Me: “Emily, I don’t have a daughter. I have 3 boys.” {a bit annoyed she’s rubbing it in}}

Emily: “Why you do that! I not do that.”

Me: {{sigh}} “I hope you don’t too.”

Eggciting!!

Egg a house this Easter season, your friends will love it! Click here to print out your sign.

It’s a little later than usual, but we finally “Egged” some friends houses. The boys love it and it’s been such a fun tradition in our family.

However, every year we get caught by the Eakins! Several of their kids were outside on the side yard but we were super sneaky and got all the eggs hidden. Dylan got caught trying to get back to the car. Drat! We almost made it. {{giggle}}

Here’s Davis at our last house. Great job, boys!

Today we had the annual friend Easter Egg Hunt at the park. I’m so grateful for the invite because it’s such a fun time not only for the kids but for me as well. Once a year I get to reunite with friends that I haven’t seen since last year at the hunt.

Today, I made sure that I took a moment to really take in the experience. I was amazed at how much my friends’ kids have grown and how how much they look like their siblings. I think this was the first year Davis has been able to come since it’s Spring Break- he’s usually at school.

(btw: I’ve completely given up on trying to get all 3 kids to look at the camera at the same time. Can you tell? ha ha)

My mom drove down Wednesday to spend part of her Spring Break with us. She was able to help Drake and the boys search for eggs. She got Drake the shirt that says, “It’s my brother’s fault!” Too funny.

As I was getting ready to leave the park, I was trying to be funny and made a comment to 2 of my friends husbands. I said, “Was it as good for you as it was for me?” I noticed one of their faces get weird and then I realized what I might have implied. {open mouth, insert foot} Just to set the record straight, I wasn’t hitting on any one’s husbands and I didn’t mean it that way. Oops!

That’s what I get for trying to be funny.

What fun Easter traditions do you do with your family?

A Dentist’s Nightmare!

I took Davis to the dentist yesterday to get a crown. Apparently, all 4 of Davis’ permanent molars have developed without enamel on them. Therefore, the dentin is flaking off and obviously causing some problems. Poor guy, let’s just say he didn’t win the genetic lotto. 😉

Thank goodness our dentist is a family friend and a great guy. Because after having to hold Davis down and negotiate with him for 1 1/2 hours, I was near tears and exhausted!! Needless to say we’ve been referred to a pediatric dentist for the other 3 crowns. Sorry Brian, hope we’re still friends. {{smile}}

I don’t think Davis is too traumatized – afterwards we went and got a new Bionicle and talked about how after hard work comes rewards. Now he has a cool “Darth Vader tooth” that won’t rot away and a new toy to boot.

My Mom and I had plans to go to lunch, but because of the longer dentist appointment and the babysitter couldn’t stay longer, that didn’t work out. Instead she was gracious enough to let me meet my friends for lunch and she babysat the kids. Thanks Mom! I needed to decompress after such a horrifying event. Look at that, I got rewarded too.

*Have you had a bad experience at the dentist?

Drake is 2!

Friday was Drake’s 2nd birthday so we decided to party Backyardigans style.

Before the party Lisa and Drake had fun with the party hats.

I bought the newest Backyardigans DVD – The Mighty Knights and pulled lots of amazing stuff from NickJr.com. You can print off paper costumes, but I decided to make these easy ones from 1/2 yard of fabric and ribbon. Drake is Pablo the king, Emily is the fairy, and…

Tyson was supposed to be a knight, but he wouldn’t put on the costume. So Dylan wore it instead.

We kept it simple and only invited 2 guests, Emily and Tyson. I had costumes, popsicle stick puppets, bubble wands, and echo phones for each guest.

I transformed the living room into a castle with butcher paper, complete with the Dragon, King Pablo, and the Grabbing Goblin.

We played pin the crown on Pablo, played with bubbles,

(I’m bubbling over with love for my man!) he he

watched the DVD, and opened presents.

While we were singing, Drake folded his arms for the prayer. What a cutie pie.

The boys helped him blow out his candles. I was surprised to find out that Drake new exactly what to do. As soon as the candle was lit, be tried to blow it out.

The party was only an hour (perfect) and so much fun! You could tell Drake felt so important and loved all the extra attention. We got him Geotrax and it was a huge hit will all 3 of the boys. Davis keeps saying that “he loves playing with toddler toys. It makes him feel younger.” ha ha
