The Phantom Ghost has come to town…

Monday night we started baking our treats for our Phantom goody plate. Every year we print out one of our Phantom poems on orange paper, and start the fun tradition of delivering treats to 3-4 families in the ring and run fashion. I always let the boys pick who our victims are going to be. 😉

This year I was a bit ambitious on our cupcakes. The directions sounded easy enough.

Oh well, ours look more like mohawked zombies but we had a fun time making them.

Davis always has a plan of attack, start on the side of the house!

It took us a couple houses, but by the last one Davis waited to ring the doorbell until Dylan was ready to run. Crazy kid! 😉

Meanwhile, Drake had a chocolate pretzel stick dipped in red sprinkles. This is what I saw when I looked back to check on him. My 13 year old turned into vampire!

All About Food

My Latest Guilty Pleasure! The perfect blend of mint with a creamy filling. It comes with 2 bars so you can have one before lunch and one after. That is of course if you have the will power, which I don’t! 😉

I’ve got meals on the brain. It’s a touchy subject at my house these days. I hate to cook!! I can not stress this enough. Why you ask? Because I’m not good at it. When I cook for others, I break out in a panic sweat wondering if it’s going to be edible. It’s bad. I got a D is homemaking in Jr. High and am still scared to this day. (Literally, I have a scar on my arm.)

Did anyone see Oprah’s show with Jessica Seinfeld? She has this new cookbook out for kids where you puree veggies and cook them into their meals. I might try this out! Of course that means that my man will have to eat kid food since I refuse to cook 2 meals. One is hard enough. My kiddos are so skinny and they don’t eat very healthy. I like how organized the program is and it looks completely doable. We’ll see…

Another tip, www.Smilebox.com/familyfun has this fun program where you can easily upload your family photos and make a “Tried & True Cookbook”. I think it’s a great Christmas gift idea or a fun addition to a wedding gift. If I ever go OCD on cooking like I’ve done in the past, I’m going to make myself one.

By the way: If you do make one, please make one for me! I’m in major need of some recipes. Jen and Mandy have offered to help teach me how to do some basic cooking to gain my confidence. You rock Ladies! I just might have to take you up on it.

Julie’s Rock’n Birthday

The part-ay and the crafting has continued! We celebrated Julie’s birthday on Tuesday here at my house. Now we’re going to have to make up reason’s to see each other. 😉

Isn’t this such a simple but bold wrapping idea? Love it!

I made this Julie Rocks! game and played it at the party. I’ve known Julie for 2 years now but I learned more about her making this game than I had the past 2 years.

Here’s the inside with the instructions and the game pieces.

How did I come up with this completely fab party idea you ask? I was inspired and plagiarized, um I mean blog borrowed, this idea from the Totally Tiffani game that Lindsey made Tiffani for her birthday. Thanks Ladies!

You can get more pictures and details on how to make this game board on Executive Homemaker. What was your favorite birthday celebration or gift?

Birthday Party Ideas

I love to throw birthday parties for my friends. It think that at least once a year you should let the people close to you know how much you appreciate them.

Here are some of my Girlfriend Birthday Party Ideas:

1. Around the Clock Birthday: This is a great spin on the surprise birthday party. Have friends and family members go to the birthday girl’s house every hour on the hour.

2. Spin on the Gift Card: Instead of collecting money and buying a generic gift card, attach the money to something that represents the gift. Click on the link for more details.

3. I’ve already given my Friends are Like Flowers idea.

4. House of Money: I’ve done this recently as well. My friend wanted money to decorate her house, so I made this house and filled the windows, door, etc with cash.

5. Song Card w/ CD: Katri submitted this tip to Executive Homemaker, she made her friend a CD and then worked the song titles into the card.

You can get further instructions and pictures at ExecutiveHomemaker.com under Gift Ideas then Girlfriend Birthdays.

Here’s a great tile my friend gave as a birthday gift idea. Enjoy and throw a kick-butt birthday bash for a good friend. Also, I’m in desperate need of some new ideas. So if you’ve got one please leave me a comment! Y’all rock!!

Party Time!

We had Dylan’s 7th birthday party on Friday. It was so much fun! He wanted a transformer party.

The Invitation

TOP SECRET! You are asked to help on a special rescue mission. Galvatron has stolen the matrix, without its wisdom and power the Autobots will be defenseless against the evil Decepticons. They plan to steal all the earth’s resources and destroy it. Please help the Autobots get the matrix back and save the earth. Join Dylan at our secret base, etc…

We went on a hunt for the stolen matrix.

Played memory Transformer style by matching up the guy to what it transforms into.

Played Transformer Bingo that I made. You can print it out for free on ExecutiveHomemaker.com.

Can you tell this is my kid!?!

After the hunt, snacks, presents, and cake, they watched the old Transformers movie upstairs.

I made each guest their own Transformer Bingo game as their party favor with a package of M&M’s inside. I play every bingo game with candy. 😉

Davis was home sick on Friday and made the “Happy Birthday” banner by drawing and cutting out each letter and then tying it together individually w/ string. I was really proud of him!

I uploaded everything including the agenda for the Transformer party onto ExecutiveHomemaker.com and you can print it out free, click here.

1st Day of School

My kids are finally in school and my exhausting summer has officially ended. Time to celebrate! Here we are at Pei Wei for lunch. Yummy!

I folded a ton of laundry that was on my lazy boy in my room. And I finally had some time to think and get together something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while now…

The ‘Great Tip Award’ from TipJunkie.com. It will work just like all the other meme’s we’ve been doing. Please follow the rules to assure the integrity of the award. It will be a blog version of Maven’s so to speak.

I award this to:
  • Rochelle for detailing her entire house and all her home improvement projects, complete with before and after pictures. I have been inspired so much by her talent and decor tips. Every time I’m over I see something new and get a new idea.
  • ONEHM for always sharing her amazing digital scrapbooking layouts complete with what kits she used. I love her layouts so much and am inspired by her dedication to doing something she really enjoys.
  • Skip to my Lou for always having great tips and ideas. Her latest post is on how to do a Shrimp Boil. Seriously, how fun is that! She even posts how-to pictures for every recipe, craft, and project. She’s truly amazing.
Now it’s your turn to tag. The participation rules are simple:
1. If you get tagged, write a post with links to 3 blogs that also have great tips.
2. Link this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.
3. Optional: Proudly display the ‘Great Tip Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote.
4. Optional: Submit the tip(s) to be featured on TipJunkie.com.
Please remember to tag blogs with real merits. The goal is to spotlight inspiring ideas that make life easier, fun, and/or more beautiful.

Inspired Blogging

I was going to splurge and get my boys a monogrammed backpack this year. However, I was in The Children’s Place and found these backpacks for $12! They boys asked for them and I thought, “That’s a no-brainer“. So I bought them and was a little bummed but moved on.

Then last week I was completed inspired by Mique’s back to school post where she not only monogrammed her kids backpacks herself but also made them some really cool tags too. I was back to being excited and drove over to Micheal’s that day (yes with all 3 boys) and they picked these iron-on letters for their backpacks. Yeah!! (I feel a lot better considering how many of these backpacks I saw at school today.)

So I got an e-mail from Mer who was inspired by my placemats. Don’t you think hers turned out so great! I really like the fabric she chose. She wanted to know how I frayed the edges and I e-mailed her back with pics and told her I cut all along the edges and then washed them.

I’m constantly inspired by you amazing ladies. What have you guys been inspired to do?

Funeral, Family, and yes some Fun

We made it home. While we were in Lake Jackson we were able to stay with Jason’s mom and step-dad. We all had such a fun time and it was so nice to be together again. We got to see Nana (Jason’s grandma – pictured above) twice which was a real treat.

With all the loss of loved ones this summer, I can’t stop thinking about how important it is to be prepared. I made this Personal Records Booklet that you can print off free, click here. I’m going to send a copy to both my parents. I have no idea what funeral arrangements they would want and I think it’s so important that a funeral reflects the personality of the loved one.

We were able to take the SeaDoos out on the lake twice over the weekend. Here’s my favorite picture. It’s of Jason and Davis. They’re having some great bonding time this summer and it’s made a big difference in their relationship. Man, Davis is getting so grown up!

Right when we got home, I had to wash the country off the Toby. Right when we got to Lake Jackson he rolled in something gross. I had forgotten about it until we were loading up and then decided that I didn’t want to smell wet dog for 6 hours and decided I’ll wash him when we get home.

We stopped in College Station on our way home and saw Lisa, Billy, and the progress of their house. It’s amazing!! All the way home I was thinking about home decor and everything I could do to it. Then I remembered, it wasn’t my house and will have to let Lisa be in control. (Darn. he he)
