The Annual Halloween Party

There are 3 parties that I look forward to every year. The Halloween party is one of them! It’s a crazy fun time where not only is it mandatory that you dress up BUT you also have to have a skit prepared.

It makes for an eventful night full of laughter and complete irreverence. I LOVE it!

This year we had quite the characters, here’s Indian w/ feather and dot.

Kate & Ozzie

My sister Lisa went as Beyonce, I went as Taylor Swift, and my BIL went as Kanye West. It’s not a stretch what our skit was. {{wink}}

Leslie & John’s magazine costumes where a huge hit!

Ozzie got a little out of “hand” and started it all. It’s totally Ozzie’s fault.

Next thing you know the party really got going.

Yep! Even I couldn’t resist getting in on the action. {{fotfl}}

Here’s our skit! I wish we had our practice round recorded because we rocked it but got a little disctracted during the final show. Enjoy!

{{sorry the video wouldn’t post. I’ve been working on it for HOURS. I’ll try again in the morning.}}

Julie’s 40th Birthday

I cannot believe I am just now posting this. {{shame on me!}} We celebrated my dear friend Julie’s 40th birthday party last month. Julie ROCKS.

Julie is straight up one of the most fabulous people I know. Girlfriend IS the entire package: she’s an amazing mother, loving wife, caring friend, volunteers at school, focuses on her family, and is a party animal.

Julie has the best laugh! She’s goofy and adorable at the same time. Even though she’s drop dead gorgeous – you don’t feel intimidated by her beauty or be-littled by her grace or her talents.

She has the uncanny ability to make everyone around her feel loved and accepted. It’s truly remarkable. I love being around Julie as her positivity and laugh is contagious.

We all gathered for lunch to shower her with gifts, praise, and help her celebrate her big day.

It was a wonderful lunch!

I’m still trying to figure out my new camera. This is the group picture that our waiter took. Lame!

This is the group shot I took. Much better – but it looks like I’m going to have to read the manual. {{lame}}

For Julie’s 40th birthday – I made her a Shutterfly book with letters and pictures of the top 40 people in her life. Thanks to her sister and hubby it turned out amazing!! For days I had gathered letters and photos from Julie’s friends and family to put in the photobook. I wanted her to feel as special and loved as she truly is.

Unfortunately, there was a glitch in my express shipping and the book didn’t arrive in time for her lunch. {{pulling hair out}}

Of course when I got home it was at my door step! So I met Julie in her home with her daughters and gave her the book. Julie loved the book, she laughed, and she cried. It was beautiful.

Watch Out – A Wolf is in the House!

(Dylan popping a balloon to see what awards he earned.)

We have been really focusing on Scouting this fall. Dylan turned 9 last month and earned his Wolf!

Dylan is such a sweet and thoughtful boy. Here he is getting ready to give me the mother’s pin.

We both earned this hug. Geeze the Wolf was a doozy!

Activities with food – done! After pack meeting we made bugs out of my favorite things on the planet, baked goods. Here’s Dylan’s twinkie bug.

Drakie and I made a ding dong spider. Yummy! {{You know I ate it!}}

The Things That Make Me Giggle

I just love October. It’s right after a month full of birthday fun and I’m still giddy and happy from all the celebrations and excuses to see dear people in my life and to show them how much I adore them.

It’s also the only month my boys will wear matching shirts! {{evil laugh}}

I love easy and fun gift ideas. Amy gave me this fun Halloween gift for hosting the Dallas GNO party. I believe she’s hooked you up with a free download for this label from her blog. She gave me extras to use for friends. Seriously, so thoughtful.

Main Attic Before

October is also when I clean out my attics. The weather is usually cooler which makes it bearable to get in a get my hands dirty. I’m an attic-aholic. I’m in my attics at least 2-3 times a month swapping out toys, decor, etc.

I took everything out of the attic and organized it the way I like it, in a semi-circle. Which gives access to everything I need when I need it.

The boys had a blast rummaging through all their old toys and fun things I stash away for the winter months. You know, when they’re completely bored and want something new to play with.

Main Attic After

I know, I’m a crazy person with OCD tendencies. I’m totally OK with that. I can’t tell you how good it feels to be healthy enough to lug these heavy bins all on my own and to organize this space. I love to organize it makes me giggle.

I’m officially a Soccer Mom

It’s official, I am a soccer mom. All 3 of my boys are in soccer this season. This is Davis’ first year for the sport and let’s just say “he’s not that into it”.

That’s totally ok. I believe in exposing my children to many different things. Davis has learned the rules of soccer and now has a really good idea of how the game is played. That was my main goal.

Dylan on the other hand loves it! He takes initiative and really gets into the game. I think we’ve found his sport.

Drake won’t potty train but the little man will play soccer. He loves to kick the ball and get dressed up like the big boys.

The only problem is that his team mates won’t “give” him the ball. He runs after it with all his might but they won’t share.

It really bums him out. He has even sat down in the middle of the field and put his head in his lap. It was actually quite funny!

Practices are a lot more fun because they play games and afterwards he gets to play on the play ground.

We have spent a LOT of time on the play ground this fall. The bonus is that it makes bedtimes a lot easier. {{wink}}

After 3 nights of practices a week and 3 games on Saturday, our schedule is a bit crazy.

Now you know what I’ve been doing and why updating my blog has been so difficult. šŸ™‚ I’m out on the field!

Besties, Babies, and Bloggers – Oh My!

Last week I had the craziest weekend. Kristy (not pictured), Tricia, Lisa, Wendy, and I treated ourselves to a long awaited girls weekend. We ate at the yummiest Cuban restaurant then took our desserts to go and spent the night at a Hotel in Dallas.

We stayed up late giggling, chatting, and just enjoying the time together. (With out our little shadows.) The next morning the girls headed over to Canton to shop and I slept in. (Since I absentmindedly triple-booked my weekend.)

Back Story: The restaurant we went to had the most amazing cupcakes and cakes in the window as you walk in. So I was stoked about the dessert and couldn’t wait to have a cupcake. Well… when it came time to order – it turns out they don’t sell cupcakes. Can you say deceptive advertising.

Anywho, Kristy being the most thoughtful person on the planet, felt like I deserved my cupcake and brought me one Monday morning! I’m not kidding. Can you believe that!?! It seriously made my day!

Saturday afternoon I volunteered at M.E.N.D. (Mommies Enduring Neonatal Death) meeting to help out during their ‘walk to remember’ ceremony. I went to help out my darling friend Calli who lost a baby and is heavily involved in the charity.

The families wore t-shirts in memory of their baby’s, the had tables set up with memorabilia, and after the walk to remember, each family let a balloon launch and watched it float up to heaven. I was honored to help out.

It turns out Calli ended up adopting a 6 year old daughter the day before the event! Their family has been actively looking to adopt for a while now and I am so over-the-top excited for their joyous news.

That night my sister and I headed over to Flowermound to party with the Dallas Bloggers. TexasHolly and I hosted the event in conjunction with Office Max to promote “A Day Made Better” campaign which gives money and supplies to teachers.

You can read all about it from Amy’s post. Needless to say – we had a GREAT time.

Texas Holly house is amazing! Words can not describe the creativity and genius that went into designing her home. She designed it herself, complete with a huge tub which is filled by water coming out the ceiling! There’s not a splash – not kidding.

Holly even has a working telephone booth with a secret door at the back to a guest bathroom. Brilliant. It has the polish and sophistication of Pottery Barn with a Willy Wonka twist of surprises and secret places around every turn. It’s completely fabulous.

Huge thanks to Holly for giving us a tour of her home and letting us ooh and awe in complete amazement. I’m quite sure I drooled at one point my jaw was dropped open for too long. She’s such a gracious host and hands down so cool!

Texas Holly, me, Alyssa, and Amy. It was a highlight to be able to meet these lovely and talented ladies in real life. Each a power house in her own right.

Turns out Alyssa and I live so close to each other our kids go to the same school. Isn’t it so funny that you have to travel to meet your neighbors. I can’t wait to get to know her better she’s absolutely fantastic.

Huge thanks to all these lovely ladies for making the night so enjoyable! I was truly a delight to meet you!

My Home for Halloween

We’re having a Virtual Tour of Homes over on Tip Junkie and showing off our fall decor.

Its fall and time to get the house ready for the new season! This is my front porch.

On the first day of October we filled up our Halloween Countdown Calendar with candy and started getting excited for my favorite holiday.

My son had an Indiana Jones birthday last year, so my Halloween decorations are more creepy this year as I’ve used many of his party decor.

Front door – inside

You can’t tell in this picture, but I taped several plastic spiders on the decor to make it more creepy for Halloween.

My boys LOVE these large spiders crawling down the iron banister.

The boys and I made these beaded pumpkins together one year and we relive the moment every time we tape them up.

Nook in study

My darling blogging friend Mique made me this BOO banner and I remember her every time I hang it up. I just LOVE my iron pumpkins.

That’s it, I hope you enjoyed a little tour of my home. I just love the fall!

Mother of Boys

Sedation? Me too Please.

It’s been a rough week as a mommy. Davis has not been cooperative while at the dentist. His permanent molars grew in with out enamel on them and at this point they are simply flaking away.

It’s time for drastic measures and for mommy to deal with reality. We have seen two different dentists and I’ve called around and even talked to an expert who has over 1000 high functioning autistic children in his practice. He said that IV sedation for dental work is a must. Reluctantly, I parted with an unimaginable amount of money and now it is done. Davis has all of his dental work completed.

Dear Davis,

When I was a little girl, I had no idea that when I experienced pain, so did my parents. I didn’t realize that it was difficult for them to watch me struggle, fall, and have to pick myself back up again. My parents made it all look so easy and just part of the job.

I want you to know that the reason parents don’t show their real emotion is not to deceive you but to give you the courage to do what you have to do. Yesterday when I had to restrain you in my arms while the Anesthesiologist gave you a shot – my heart broke into pieces. As it does every time I watch you struggle or in pain. I whispered encouraging words in your ear and held you with all of my might. It might have looked like that was very easy and natural for me to do as a mother – however it was not. I smiled at you, gave you a big hug, and watched the doctor take you into the operatory. What you do not know is that as soon as the door shut – I lost it. I walked outside, fell to my knees on the cement, and bawled uncontrollably. My entire body shook as to purge the immense emotion I had to bottle up to show you the love and encouragement you needed from me during such a difficult time in your life.

When you were waking up from your deep sleep after the procedure my heart broke again as I anticipated what the next several hours would be like and what you would have to endure once the numbness went away. I talked at length to the Anesthesiologist and I got you hooked up with some extra medication to make this transition a little more pleasant for you and it worked!

When you woke up you asked what time it was, told me you lost your thumb (we found it), gave me a huge hug, told me you loved me, and told me that you didn’t cry. Then a minute later – you repeated the same thing! We had the same conversation about 10 times. It was bitter sweet to see you wake up. You were adorable but it was hard to see you in that drugged state.

I just adore you little man. When you hurt, I hurt. When you cry, I also cry. When you struggle, I struggle. When you are happy, I am so happy. This is what I want you to know. There isn’t anything that I wouldn’t do for you. I prove it over and over again, you just don’t see it yet.

I love you more than the universe,

Mom
