Grandparent Post
Drake’s still not eating nor napping. I’m seriously frustrated with him. So I decided to make a Grandparent Post and focus on the positive. Drake just started praying! It’s so adorable. He just did it on his own one evening and we were so surprised. He’ll usually do it after we’ve blessed the food. It’s such a treat.
I’ve got to get him off the bottle. Seriously. I just don’t have the energy right now. We’ll tackle it after school starts. Here, I ran out of the 8 oz bottles and only had 2 four ounce ones left. He rotated them. Darling.
Drake won’t eat crackers, cereal, fruit, fruit snacks, etc. But the boy loves Cheetos! I was upstairs cleaning and asked Davis if he would put Drake in his high chair and give him a snack. This is what I came downstairs to find. I love this picture. He’s so happy in it!
Bonding Time
I can tell what I do all the time by what my baby likes to do. Does that happen in your house? Since I’ve been blogging and the boys are addicted to Webkinz, Drake spends a lot of his time trying to climb the chair in the study to get to our computers. Here Lisa gave in and let him “type” on her laptop. Can you see the pure joy exuding from his body!
Drake and Lisa have totally bonded. She gets annoyed that Drake takes so long to warm up to her when she comes to visit. Well, she finally got her wish and Drake was her shadow the last several hours of her visit. Mission accomplished, they’ve bonded.
Online School Shopping
I did something very nice for myself this year. I did all the boys school clothes shopping online! Yep, instead of dragging all three boys into several stores and spending hours coordinating outfits; it took me one hour to purchase them all online. 🙂 I shopped 3 different stores, found all their sizes, bought hard-to-find slim adjustable shorts, and was still in a good mood afterwards. It was such a treat!
Since I don’t have any cute girls to dress, I do coordinate some of the boys outfits. Simply for my personal enjoyment. Not all of them and I don’t make them match everyday. They decide what they want to wear each morning. I just like to have matching clothes on hand for events like, trip to Grandma’s, zoo, 6 Flags, etc.
It all started when Davis was little. He would take off in public all the time. I would make sure the boys matched so if I had to find Davis, I could point to Dylan and say, “He looks just like this!” Also, I would take a picture of them with the digital camera that I brought with me so I could show it as well. I know, it sounds awful. But just until a year go trying to keep Davis safe and with me at all times was a huge problem. I’m so grateful we have it under control now.
I went through all the boys clothes and decided what we’re giving away, what we’re donating, what we’re keeping, and what we still need. I love cleaning out the boys closets and getting them back in order. I think it feels good to start off the new school year with a fresh start.
How do you get ready for school?
Eclipse
I finished Eclipse today, it’s the third book in the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. As always it’s an easy and quick read even though it’s over 600 pages.
*Spoiler Alert* Sort of…
I’ll be honest, I’m bummed. I liked the second one better, New Moon. I’m an action girl and I felt like this book should have started at page 530 and continued on from there. I do think that this book was necessary closure for the characters and needed to be written this way – I just wish it had a lot more action in it. I’ve decided that I wouldn’t be as frustrated if the 4th book was already out. I’m still lovin’ Edward.
If anyone wants to borrow the book, just let me know.
Fun Day Monday
Here’s the iron I bought at Canton last Saturday. I’m so pleased at how it turned out. We had a bit of trouble hanging it yesterday. I went a little over board on the screws because I wanted to be sure it didn’t fall and hit me while I am sleeping.
I couldn’t resist, I tried all of the stuff Lisa bought at Canton in my house. (he he) It’s not every day you get to try it on before you buy it. Unfortunately, this candle holder is the only thing I found a place for (in my dining room). Bummer. I’ll have to add two of them to my birthday list. 🙂
I have a standing babysitter every Thursday to help keep my sanity during the summer. However, this week I switched and asked him to babysit on Monday. Lisa and I went and saw the Bourne Ultimatum and then went to a salvage tin shop. I loved the movie. It left me wanting more… but I really liked it.
Lisa was inspired by Rochelle’s headboard, she’s going to make one similar for her guest bedroom.
I forgot to post this for the Grandparents. Sunday, Davis had a lesson about Christ’s resurrection. His teacher is very creative and comes up with ways to keep Davis attentive during class. This week she cut up a white sheet and they wrapped up Davis in “linen” just like they did for Christ. To his delight, he got to take some of it home. As you can imagine, this is what happened when we got home.
The boys were having so much fun trying to wrap each other up. Drake seriously wanted in the action but thank goodness he was too timid to get involved. Of course, it ended up with Dylan getting hurt and the strips of cloth in the trash. But it was fun while it lasted. 🙂
My Girly Weekend
Can you believe it, 2 girls night outs in one week! You can tell all my friends are back in town. Yeah! Rochelle gave all the details on our very adventurous Friday night.
We had an exciting evening in Dallas with dinner, a movie, a fire drill, and ice-cream. Yes, I said fire drill. With only about 20 minutes left in the film, Becoming Jane, the fire alarms went off and we had to exit the building. It was actually kind of a relief to me because I had to go potty really bad! Luckily they paused the movie and after a bathroom break we were able to go back in a finish the movie. Good thing too because I wasn’t going to drive an hour and pay $9 to see it again.
*Spoiler Alert* If you don’t know about Jane’s life and want to go to the movie surprised, skip the next paragraph.
I really enjoyed the movie. Don’t hate on me, but I’m not a Jane Austen fan. I’ve seen a lot of films based on her books recently because several of my friends are fanatics. It’s enjoyable but not my first pick on a film. I’ve got to say that I loved the ending in this movie. I felt that it wrapped it up nice and neat and gave me closure. I really wish that Jane had given the shy wealthy guy a chance. Seriously, I think he had a lot more character than she was willing to admit. Too bad she ended up alone and never married in real life. Bummer! I feel more for her sister. At least Jane had her romance novels to fill her cup. I wonder what her poor sister did? I would think that after having had love and losing it in the war that you would be able to find it again?
Lisa and I had some sister time in Canton on Saturday. This is all the stuff she got. I got the big iron on the left, but you can only see part of it. We’ll hang it today and I’ll take a picture. Jason gave me a $50 limit. Can you believe that?!? He’s never done that before and at first I was insulted. Then I remembered that next month is my birthday! I’ll make up for it then. (he he)
We went to Canton because Lisa moves into her house this weekend. Yeah! I’ll be driving down to help her unpack and decorate. Her house is amazing. This is not your average starter home – she has such great taste and it’s going to be eye popping. I can’t wait for this weekend.
My Projects
Here are the projects I’ve completed this week. I had an extra board laying around from the family name board I made and added some molding around the outside. So I decided to make a calendar holder. Every year I make my own calendar with fun family pictures from last year. It includes all the birthdays, V.T. reminders, yearly activity reminders, etc. It’s looked kind of dull just hanging on the wall, but now it matches my decor! I used vinyl lettering to do the “Turk Times”. (Turk is my last name)
Here are the place mats I made for my round table. They are reversible and in some fun colors and prints.
I made 2 sets so I’d be able to wash them often.
My Celebrity Look-alikes
Media Room Curtains
I finally started on the window treatment to “black out” my media room window. The idea is I can pull the curtain from the metal holdback and cover the window completely. When we’re not using it it will look decorative like this. Here’s what I have so far, but it just doesn’t seem finished.
Here’s a different angle of the room.
I’m thinking I might buy more fabric and make one swag (similar to this) to cover the top. The only problem is that I’m a beginner seamstress at best. I’m worried I couldn’t pull it off. Please help. What do you think I should do?
